None of the countries that pushed the resolution against SL talked about sanctions; GL
External Affairs Minister Professor G.L. Peries says that none of the countries that pushed the draft resolution against Sri Lanka has talked about sanctions on Sri Lanka.
Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today, the Minister said that the sole UN body to impose sanctions against Sri Lanka is its Security Council based in New York, therefore, the Geneva UN Human Rights Commission has no such mandate.
The Minister also stressed that the government is not ready to risk national security in fear of the draft resolution presented in Geneva Human Rights Commission.
Minister G.L. Peries also described the UN Human Rights Commissioner’s sense of duty tasked on with regard to the draft resolution against Sri Lanka.
