Wijeysiripala alias Maru Sira, who was sentenced to death 39 years ago in the Bogambara Prison once again became a topic of interest today after the woman considered his wife, Dukagannaralalage Ranmenika visited the Bogambara prison to see the gallows in which he executed upon.
Maru Sira was executed via hanging on the 5th of August in 1975 at the Bogambara Prison after he was found guilty of 3 murders by Courts.
However various media reports were published regarding his execution and one of the main facts in those media reports was the question whether he was execute via hanging or was he executed and then hanged.
Following allegations by Maru Sira’s wife, Ranmenika, an inquiry was launched into the execution of Maru Sira, under the supervision of Public Trustee Mahinda Ehelepola.
Following the inquiry it was revealed that Wijeysiripala alias Maru Sira had died the night before his execution as a result of ingesting a large amount of sleeping pills.
Further inquiries revealed that he was hanged after he had died.
