Negambo fishermen demand fuel concessions and refrain from fishing
Fishermen of the coastal area between Negombo and Chillaw have boycotted to venture into sea complaining that they did not receive their fuel concession for the last eight months.
Our correspondents said that fishing markets in the area were deserted today due to the strike.
Outside fishing traders were also not allowed to sell fish in the market today and the vehicles of outstation fishing traders who came to buy fish were also not allowed to enter the market.
Strikers told our news team that a fuel concession was introduced after the increase of fuel prices in order to bring relief to the fishermen but the Fisheries Ministry did not pay their concession for the last eight months.
