Although the resolution was passed, majority of countries opposed US, says Minister G.L. Pieris.
Foreign Affairs Minister Professor G. L. Pieris says that although the resolution the US submitted to the Geneva Human Rights Commission, it has no moral foundation.
Participating at a media conference for briefing about the Geneva resolution held in Hambantota yesterday the Minister said that there were 12 votes against the resolution and 12 countries refrained from voting.
The Minister pointed out that accordingly the voting reflects a majority opinion exceeding the total of 23 votes received in favor of the resolution.
Meanwhile former permanent representative in Geneva Professor Dayan Jayatilleke said that the Sri Lankan Government had seriously collapsed before the international community.
That was in response to the query our news team made with regard to the passing of the Geneva resolution.
However, General Secretary of the Patriotic National Movement Dr Wasantha Bandara stated that Sri Lanka had achieved a victory.
