Video : Death threat to an Assistant Elections Commissioner in Matara - Elections Commissioner travels to the South
Matara District Assistant Election Commissioner Aruna Saumya Fernando has lodged a complaint with the Matara police stating that a group of supporters of UPFA Team Leader for the Southern Province, Chandima Raasaputra, have obstructed his duties.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana stated that the assistant elections commissioner had received death threats and a video camera was also stolen.
However a group of officials including Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya travelled to Matara to conduct an inquiry regarding the incident.
Matara District Assistant Elections Commissioner Aruna Saumya Fernando along with several other officials were removing illegal propaganda material of Chandima Raasaputra on Beach Road in Matara.
According to Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya a group of supporters of Chandima Rasaputra, had obstructed the duties of the Matara District Assistant Elections Commissioner.
The Elections Commissioner also stated that the group of supporters had seized a video camera which was used by officials to record the illegal propaganda items.
