Secretary of the Democratic Party Ananda Manawadu says that he believes that the Leader of the Party Sarath Fonseka is able to contest at elections.
This was after we inquired regarding the matter since Sarath Fonseka cast his vote at the election yesterday.
After Sarath Fonseka was imprisoned, many believed that he did not have the right to vote or contest at elections.
However, Deputy Elections Commission R M A L Ratnayake stated that his name was included in the voters registry.
However, legal expert Gomin Dayasiri stated that since Sarath Fonseka had undergone a prison sentence, although he may be able to vote, he cannot contest.
