Video : Pasanda Yapa, D. V. Upul win preferential votes battle in Matara and Hambantota - Preferential vote count continues in Colombo and other districts
The preferential vote results of the Matara District have been released as of now.
Accordingly UPFA candidate Pasanda Yapa Abeywardena, son of Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena has obtained the most number of preferential votes for the UPFA from the Matara district with 76,870 preferential votes.
Former Southern Provincial Councillor Chandimaa Raasaputra has secured second place with 70,509 preferential votes.
Sarath Yapa Abeywardena has secured 3rd place in the Matara District by obtaining 47,090.
Chathura Galapaththi had obtained the highest number of preferential votes for the UNP by securing 27,930 votes and Gayan Sanjeewa had obtained 2nd place for from the UNP by obtaining 22,271 preferential votes.
Jinadasa Kithul - goda of the JVP has also been selected for the Provincial Council from the Matara District by obtaining 6,173 preferential votes.
The top spot in the Hambantota District from the UPFA has gone to D. V. Upul who had secured 66,995 preferential votes.
M. K. Kasun has secured 2nd place by obtaining 55,881 preferential votes and 3rd place from the UPFA ticket has gone to Ajith Rajapaksha who has obtained 34,591 preferential votes.
Tennakoon Gamage Senarathne managed to obtain the highest number of preferential votes from the UNP nominations list by securing 28,829 preferential votes while Nimal Lal - Chandra has obtained 2nd place from the UNP ticket by obtaining 17,199 votes.
Nihal Galappaththi was the leading JVP candidate, managing to obtain 11,957 preferential votes.
The preferential voting results of the Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Galle Districts have not been released yet.
