Several former Provincial Councillors defeated this time
Several former Provincial Councilors of the Western and the Southern Provincial Councils have lost their seats in the election concluded on Saturday.
14 former PC members who represented the Gampaha district, and 5 PC members who represented the ruling party as well as the Opposition are among the defeated candidates.
At the same time, 16 former PC members of the Southern Provincial Council have also lost their seats this time.
Meanwhile several war hero candidates who won seats in the Provincial Council election in 2009 lost their seats this time.
Among them is former Southern Provincial Councilor Ajith Prasanna who had often clashed with Geetha Kumarasinghe in the Galle district.
Among the defeated are JHU provincial councillor Ven. Thebuwana Piyananda and Madumadawa Arawinda who contested for Gampaha from the same party.
Former councillor of UPFA Sugath Mathugamage who contested for Kalutara District could not win the election.
UNP candidate Royce Fernando who was arrested and remanded for robbery, won the election, and was placed 6th in the Gampaha District party list.
Moreover, Wickramabaahu Karunaratne representing Nawa Sama Samaaja party as well as Dr. Sudath Damsinha representing UPFA were both defeated.
Meanwhile, Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzi’s son Nauser Fowzi was also defeated during the provincial election.
