Protest in Kekirawa against Thilanga Sumathipala's race by race betting centers : Video
A protest against the two race by race bookies being run and due to be declared open in Kekirawa was staged yesterday.
While the protesters also met the Kekirawa Provincial Council Chairman, on this occasion the Chairman said he too was opposed to the said bookies.
The protest campaign began from near the Kekiraawa Clock Tower at about 10 a.m. yesterday.
Kekirawa Buddhist Dispensation Welfare Board , Clergy of other religions and residents had organized this.
Kotasara Piyangalu Buddhist Temple Chief Incumbent Venerable Kudaakannoruwa Siddhaartha Thero expressing his views on this occasion stated that such betting centres have an adverse impact in the society.
Kekiraawa Saint Francis church parish priest Reverend Father Nimal Madurapperuma also expressed his views about these two race by race bidding centres.
He stated that everybody gathered devoid of religious differences to protest against the move.
While the protesters subsequently arrived at the Kekiraawa Divisional Secretariat, they handed over a letter to Divisional Secretariat Athula Senarat Bandaara requesting that the two racy by race bidding centres be removed from the Kekiraawa town.
Subsequently the protesters visited the Kekiraawa Divisional Council and handed over to him a letter.
Afterwards while the protesters came to the vicinity of the location where the new race by race bookie is due to be inaugurated and expressed their protest Kekiraawa Saashanaarakshaka Board Secretary Venerable Kosgolley Rathana Thero expressed his views.
The thero stated that these betting centers are established under the patronage of Thilanga Sumathipala and it is a menace to the public.
The thero further stated that authorities must take steps to remove such betting centers which are a menace.
