According to the Farmer Federation for the Conservation of Traditional Seeds, if the Seed Act is passed, it will have advese impact on traditional seed farmers.

Expressing his views during a protest staged at Kanduruwela, Polonnaruwa today, the Chairman of the Federation Venerable Maha-wan-kadawela Piya-rathana Thero said that the new Seed Act is trying to create a seed monopoly in the country.

The Ministry of Agriculture has already submitted the Seed Act to the Cabinet Sub Committee where both UNP and JVP have opposed the Act.

Earlier, a protest was staged in Eppawela, Anuradhapura against the Seed Act.

A demonstration is to be held today following the protest meeting at Kanduruwela.
