Video : Chairman of the Tangalle pradeshiya saba remanded until the case is over: 5 others realised on bail.
Colombo Chief High Court Judge Rohini Walgama ordered today to remand a suspect of the murder of a British national and gang rape of his Russian born fiancée and Tangalle former Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Sampath Chandrapushpa Widana Pathiranapa until the hearing of the case is over.
The Judge also ordered to release the other five suspects on previous bail.
Manager of the Nature Resort R.B. Taranga Peries was not present before Court today to give evidence as she was fallen sick.
Later different lawyers appeared for the six suspects and appealed bail for each suspect separately.
At this moment, state counsel Susith Mudalige informed the Court that the suspects could abscond court hearings if they are given bail.
Mudalige told the Court that the supporters of the suspects have already intimidated when they are transported to the Prison.
Later Judge Rohini Walgama said in open Court that she will act to pass a reasonable verdict and asked all parties concerned not to disturb the court.
She also said that all suspects are innocent until the case is over, and serving in remand is not considered a punishment.
The Court also fixed the case on the 22nd and 23rd of this month and decided to hear the case throughout the day
