Special equipment for state banks and financial institutions for identifying counterfeit notes.
The Central Bank has taken action to brief all financial institutions and trade banks about the use of machines for identifying fake currency notes.
Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard told our news team that this action had been taken consequent to information being received from time to time in the recent past about counterfeit currency notes.
The most recent incident about fake notes being discovered was reported day-before-yesterday.
That was the incident of the police discovering a stock of 2.7 million rupees worth five thousand rupee fake notes and 10 fake notes of te thousand rupee denomination in the possession of a soldier who had served at the Kegalle Beragala regiment headquarters.
On this occasion the police also recovered a computer and a printing machine used for printing fake notes.
Meanwhile a resident at Aethulkotte who had served as a director at a private garment factory was apprehended recently along with 120,000 rupees worth stock of five thousand rupee fake notes.
