Army officers who harassed a group of trainee woman soldiers identified

Military media spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said that army officers who had harassed a group of trainee woman soldiers during a training at an army camp in Anuradhapura had been identified.

A video footage displaying the manner a group of trainee woman soldiers were harassed during a training at an army camp was publicized on the internet these past days.

Participating at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday military spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said that while an investigation was also carried out about this by the army the soldier who had videoed  the incident had also been identified.

Meanwhile the military media spokesman said that while 50,000 personnel had deserted the army in 1972, thirty thousand of them had been legally discontinued from service in the army.

However the military media spokesman said that 20,000 soldiers who had deserted the army but have not surrendered to the army have to be arrested.
