Tense situation opposite Kurunagala Sir John Kothalawala Vidyalaya; April vacation given in advance.
North Western Provincial Education Secretary P.B.M. Sirisena says that it is decided to give April vacation for the students of Kurunegala Sir John Kotalawala Vidyalaya with effect from tomorrow.
The decision was taken after a tense situation erupted today as students, parents and old pupils of the Vidyalaya protested against remanding the school principal with regard to the Facebook incident.
The Court ordered yesterday to remand Sir John Kotalawala principal Saman Indra Rathna until 11th of this month after he allegedly intimidated the witnesses of the case.
Later riot police were also summoned to the scene in order to beef up security in the area.
After the protest North Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera presided a meeting with Provincial Education Secretary P.B.M. Sirisena, Acting Principal and parents of the school.
Provincial Education Secretary P.B.M. Sirisena said that all parties came to an agreement in order to resolve the prevailing disputes and restart of the school.
A Year-11 female student of Sir John Kotalawala Vidyalaya committed suicide by hanging herself on February 5, after she was reprimanded by the school principal for uploading her photographs on Facebook.
