2 persons died in Kaluwara-gas-wewe - Thenuwara area yesterday after being struck by lightning.

The deceased were residents from Bingiriya and Kuliyapitiya and they were 36 and 24 years of age respectively.

Police stated that the remains are kept at the Puthlam hospital morgue.

Meanwhile the met department states that Showers or thundershowers will be fairly widespread during the afternoon and night.

Showers can be expected in the Southern and Uva provinces during the morning too.

Director General of the meteorology Department Lalith Chadrapala states that there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, deputy director of the Disaster Management centre Pradeep Kodipillai request the General public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
