Don't consider the requests of people's representatives as political interventions; President informs government institution heads.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday directed the Ministry Secretaries that the requests of the public to the people’s representatives, including the Ministers and Heads of Government institutions should not be considered as political interference.
The President has directed the Ministry Secretaries that they should act on these requests on priority basis.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga has informed the secretaries of the President’s directives in writing.
The Secretary to the President in his letter to the Ministry Secretaries has stated that the President has received information that officials are in the habit of considering the requests received to the Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Parliamentarians, people’s representatives, Ministry Secretaries, heads of departments and statutory bodies from the public as political interference.
The President views that the public representatives have a responsibility and duty to direct the public requests received to the relevant Heads of Government institutions.
The Ministry Secretaries and Heads of Departments and governments institutions are bound to promptly respond to such requests.
Therefore, such requests should be given priority.
