Video :A convicted criminal on life time sentence who lived at large for 29 years remanded again.
Mahawa Additional Magistrate court faced a dilemma when a person who evaded lifetime imprisonment for 29 years was presented before the courts after being arrested for two different cases.
The 58 year old suspect H.N. Wijeratne, a resident of Polpithigama, was arrested last year for brewing illegal liquor. After evading the court hearing, Police investigations revealed that the suspect has provided fake details at the time of arrest.
Polpithigama Police filed 2 cases against H.N. Wijeratne who was arrested and produced before Mahawa Additional Magistrate courts on last November 13th, where he pleaded guilty.
The suspect’s finger print report revealed that he had been passed with death sentence in 1985, which was commuted to lifetime imprisonment in 1986.
The convict has lived 29 years at large.
The magistrate ordered to remand the convict until 22nd of this month.
