North-Central Province Chief Minister S M Ranjith said that steps would be taken to remove the two gambling centres from the Kekirawa town namely, the race by race bookie that is currently in operation and the new centre that is being constructed.
That was while receiving a special letter presented by the Mahaa Sangha of the area in protest against the relevant two gambling centres.
Earlier too the Kekiraawa residents protested against the two gambling centres allegedly belonging to Thilanga Sumathipala
That was in demand for closing down these two gambling centres.
Subsequently they handed over a letter with regard to this to the Kekiraawa Divisional Secretariat and Divisional Council Chairman and Deputy Minister Weerakumaara Dissanayake at the Kekiraawa Development meeting.
Buddhist monks of Kekiraawa yesterday handed over a letter to North Central Province Chief Minister S. M. Ranjith petitioning the closure of the race by race bookie.
On this occasion Kekiraawa Sangha Welfare Council Registrar Venerable Kosgolley Rathana Thero said that much damage is caused to society as a result of these two gambling centres allegedly belonging to Thilanga Sumathipala.
The Provincial Chief Minister agreed with this and attested that he would take action to stop these two gambling centres.
On this occasion itself North Central Chief Minister S. M. Ranjith telephoned Provincial Senior DIG Ravi Wijegunawardhana and gave him relevant instructions.
This is the occasion when the Chief Minister gave instructions to the DIG after the Buddhist monks briefed the Chief Minister about the problem.
