Leader of the House Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva told in parliament yesterday that sometimes the Sri Lankan Cricket team had to face obstacles from officialdom.

The Minister said so while moving in parliament yesterday the resolution of felicitation to the Sri Lankan Cricket team that emerged as 20 – 20 world champions.

This is also the first time that such a felicitation motion was moved in parliament for a sports team of the country.

Expressing his views at the time of the felicitation motion, DNA MP Arjuna Ranatunga said that the 20 – 20 world Cup was a good reply to International Cricket monopoly.

 T 20 world champions visit Parliament.

The Sri Lankan cricket team who won the ICC T20 World Cup arrived at the parliament complex this evening.

Deputy speaker Chandima Weerakkody, Chief government whip Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Chief Opposition whip MP John Amaratunga welcomed the Lankan cricketers.

The cricketers were escorted to the special guests’ gallery to attend the Vote of Felicitation.

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa congratulated the cricketers, and Leader of the House Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva commenced the Vote of Felicitation.

Subsequently, UNP MP John Amaratunga, Sports Minister Mahinda-nanda Aluthgamage and TNA leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake delivered the vote of felicitation.

Colombo district parliament MP R. Dumindha Silva also congratulated the cricket team along with the rest of the parliament members.
