The new act obstructs raids on electricity piracy during the night. A severe loss to the CEB. 20 million rupees fine per month from day time raids.
The Ceylon Electricity Board says that due to certain new amendments made to the Electricity Act, the number of incidents where electricity has been obtained illegally has increased.
Chairman of the CEB W B Ganegala stated that around 20 Million Rupees has been obtained as fines for having illegally obtained electricity.
Due to the new act, raids cannot be conducted after 5PM till 8AM and hence there is an increase in instances of having illegally obtained electricity.
However, the CEB Chairman stated that officials have been deployed to continuously conduct raids.
