The ten security officers of the former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga who were jailed for harassing popular vocalist duo Rukantha and Chandraleka have been released.

Prison Commissioner General Chandrarathna Pallegama said that nine of the inmates held at Kalutara Prison and another one at Welikada left at 7.45 this morning.

He also said that the penalties and compensation ordered by the Court were also waived off as the 10 prisoners were released under Presidential pardon.

The former PSD officers were given 4 and half years rigorous imprisonment each and ordered each of them to pay 21 thousand rupees penalty and 200 thousand rupees compensation to the victims.

However Rukantha and Chandraleka met the President a few years later and requested the President to pardon their perpetrators.
