Family Health Officers conclude strike; a separate school for midwifery training : Video
The continuous strike staged by the Midwives Association against the decision taken by Health Ministry to offer midwifery training to the Nursing staff, has been suspended.
While speaking during a media briefing convened today in Colombo, the Chairperson of the association Devika Kodituwakku stated that they have decided to report for duty from tomorrow onwards.
She further stated that the decision was made following the discussion they had with the Health Minister yesterday, and that the Ministry has agreed to establish a Midwifery School to train midwives.
Moreover, she further stated that the Ministry has agreed to offer an additional 1 year training apart from the basic training offered to the in-service midwives and new recruits.
A continuous strike was staged by the Midwives Association on the 2nd of this month, following a previous protest.
The Midwives Association was engaged in a special religious ritual at the Chilaw Munneswaram Bhadra-kaali Kovil yesterday.
