Amendments of number of seats to each districts announced.
The elections commissioner has announced the number of seats that will be allocated for each district in the event of a parliamentary election based on the 2013 voters list.
According to a gazette notice issued on the 10th of March of this year the number of seats have increased for the Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Monaragala and Ratnapura districts and the number of seats allocated for the Matara and Jaffna districts have been reduced when compared to the number of seats allocated during the 2010 parliamentary elections.
In effect the number of seats allocated for Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Monaragala and Ratnapura districts has increased by one and the number of seats allocated for the Jaffna district has reduced by 3 and number of seats allocated for the Matara district has reduced by 1.
In addition according to the 2013 voters list, Colombo has been allocated 19 seats, Gampaha 18 seats, Kalutara 10 seats, Kandy 12 seats, Matale 5 seats, Galle 10 seats and Hambantota 7 seats.
Similarly according to the 2013 voters list the Wanni district has been allocated 6 seats Batticaloa 5 seats, Digamadulla 7 seats, Trincomalee 4 seats, Kurunegala 15 seats and Puttalam 8 seats.
Also the number of seats allocated for the districts of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Kegalle are 9, 5 and 9 respectively.
The number of seats allocated to each district differs based on the population ratio of each division of the district.
In a parliamentary election 196 parliamentarians are chosen and 29 bonus seats are allocated, bringing the total number of seats to 225.
