Provincial council elections to be held under Electoral and Ration system.
The national committee appointed to demarcate electoral boundaries has proposed the government to hold forthcoming provincial council elections under the Electoral and Ratio system.
The demarcation of electorates has already been completed, and the recommendations to hold provincial council elections under the new system have been proposed in its final report.
Local Government Act No. 22 which was passed in 2012 has proposed to hold local government elections in 2016 under the new Electoral and Ratio system.
Accordingly a five member committee presided by former ministerial secretary Jayalath Ravi Dissanayake was appointed to demarcate electorates.
The committee has already completed its work and the final report will be handed over to Provincial Council and Local Government Minister A.L.M. Athaullah soon.
Accordingly, four thousand 824 electorates have been identified and five thousand and 94 members will be elected under the electoral system while one thousand 533 members will be elected under ratio system.
