A special investigation is currently under way to probe the attack carried out against several UNP MP’s who were on an inspection tour in the Mattala International Airport and Hambanthota port yesterday.
Police media spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana stated that attention will be focused weather police evaded their responsibilities.
MPs Ajith P Perera, Naleen Bandara, Eran Wickramarathna, Ajith Mannapperuma and R. Yogarajan joined the inspection tour in Mattala and Hambantota yesterday.
UNP MP’s said that a group of men scolded and threatened them at the Mattala Airport premises.
They further said that another group launched when they visited the Hambantota Port.

A group of men stormed into a UNP parliamentary delegation, and attacked them while the MPs were on an inspection tour in the Mattala International Airport today.
MPs Ajith P Perera, Naleen Bandara, Eran Wickramarathna, Ajith Mannapperuma and R. Yogarajan had joined the inspection tour in Mattala and Hambantota today.
MP Naleen Bandara said that a group of men scolded and threatened his delegation at the Mattala Airport premises.
He said that another group launched an attack on the UNP parliament delegation when they visited the Hambantota Port.
MP Ajith P Perera who was a victim of the attack said that he would lodge a complaint regarding the attack to the Police Headquarters after the delegation returns to Colombo this evening.
MP Perera also said that Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando who was armed with a gun threatened the UNP MPs.
When our news team contacted Hambantota Mayor, Eraj Fernando denied the allegations made by UNP MP Ajith P Perera and further stated that he had intervened to resolve the issue.
