Midwife issue re-emerges from Kurunegala
The Government Midwife Services Association stated that they will commence a trade union action if the issue regarding midwives at the Kurunegala Hospital is not resolved within 5 days.
Speaking to our news team, the Chairman of the Association Devika Kodituwakku stated that currently the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital has removed midwives and assigned nursing officers for administration.
Meanwhile, the Government Medical Officers’ Association has made an allegation against the Director of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital stating that the Director is acting in a very irresponsible manner by issuing instructions to disrupt the activities in the hospital.
When inquired by our news team, the Director of Kurunegala Teaching Hospital Dr. Palitha D. Yapa stated he is unable to stop the issues pertaining to the trade union action and the allegations made against him are false.
However, the Chairman of Government Nursing Officers’ Association Saman Ratnapriya stated that the Labour room at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital is functioning as usual.
