University students have also been holding ‘Sathyagraha’ campaigns at four different locations to show protest against the ministry decision.

The main Sathyagraha had been launched at the Galaha junction in Peradeniya 119 days ago.

Sathyagraha campaigns are also being held opposite the Galle bus stand which completes 111 days today and opposite the Colombo Fort Railway Station which completes 26 days today.

Meanwhile the fourth Sathyagraha is held opposite the University Grants Commission which completes 16 days today.

Inter University Students Federation Convener Najith Indika expressed his views to the media during the protest opposite the University Grants Commission this morning.

Riot police was deployed near the University Grants Commission as students began the protest this morning.

Our correspondents said that a tense situation erupted after several Senior Police Officers issued instructions to protesting students.

The minister also admitted that students demand, to increase the duration of the Allied Health Science degree from three years to four is justified.

He said that the Higher Education Ministry and the University Grants Commission agree to fulfill their demand but told students to go to courts and seek a settlement as currently there is an agreement in court to reduce the time duration of the four-year degree to three years.
