Speaker expressed his sympathy in parliament today over the threatening and attack on UNP MPs who went on a fact finding tour in the Mattala Airport and the Hambantota Port recently.

The Speaker showed his sympathies after Acting Opposition Leader John Amaratunga made a statement under the Standing Order 23-2.

MP Amaratunga said that the attack on the UNP MP is a denial of their privileges as parliamentarians.

Responding to Amaratunga, Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathna said that an investigation is already underway with regard to this matter.

However Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa stated that Opposition members have all rights to inspect ongoing development projects in the country.

The Speaker further said that the subject ministers should be held responsible for this incident.
