No permission for Casinos in the proposed Crown Hotel Complex - says President : Video
The UNP held a demonstration on D.R. Wijewardana Mawatha this morning in protest of the proposed Crown hotel project.
The respective three gazettes to build the Crown hotel project were taken for debate in parliament today.
However Chief Prelates of the three major Chapters have sent a letter to the President in this regard.
Asgiri and Malwathu Chief Prelates as well as Amarapura and Ramannya Nikaya Chief Prelates argue that in the particular gazettes, the word ‘related facilities’ has not been described in details.
The Chief Prelates said therefore under the cover of this evasive wording, it could lead to various vices such as gambling, gaming, liquor and prostitution.
Therefore the Chief Prelates ask the President to amend the Bill after making clear interpretations of its clauses.
Meanwhile issuing a media communiqué with regard to the Casino gazette, the Congress of Religions stated that Casino is not needed nor it wants amendments.
Dr. Iththepane Dhammalankara Thera, Professor Bellanwila Wimalarathana Anu Nayake Thera, Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera and Colombo Arch Bishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith were signatories to the communiqué.
However President Mahinda Rajapaksa who met heads of media institutions at Temple Trees this morning stressed that Casino are not allowed in the Crown hotel project to be built on the D.R. Wijewardana Mawatha.
