INTERPOL has issued a red notice for the arrest of Perinpanayagam Sivaparan, alias Nediyavan, the Norway-based leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
According to the Interpol official website, Nediyawan is considered as a wanted suspect for the local judiciary authorities charged with terrorism allegations and a one that should be dealt with severely.
The Interpol urge from all the countries in the world to inform their national or local police authorities if they receive a clue regarding Nediyawan, a 37 year old resident of Waaduk-kodai who can communicate in both Tamil and English.
The Norway Government has been expecting the red notice issued by the Interpol to arrest Nediyawan.
The country’s Foreign Affairs Ministry has made a statement that they hope to discuss regarding Nediyawan with the Sri Lankan government.
Sri Lankan government has informed the Interpol that there are 430 persons wanted including Nediyawan regarding terrorist activities.
16 organizations have been named including British Tamil Collective which represents Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora and World Tamil Collective.
Although it is not reported that Nediyan is currently not in the Norwegian kingdom, he was arrested in Oslo in 2011.
That was to inquire about raising funds for the LTTE from the Tamil community in Norway.
Although he was released under conditional bail, he has not reported thereafter to the Norway police.
It is believed that in addition to Nediyawan, several LTTE cadres for whom Interpol red notice has been issued, reside in Norway.
