A 55-year-old university lecturer, a resident of Matara, was arrested today by the National Child Protection Authority on charges of luring an underage child via Facebook.

According to the NCPA, an official pretending to be a fifteen-year-old had created a Facebook account and chatted with the lecturer for over a month.

During chats the suspect was alleged to have discussed sexual matters with the decoy.

Later the suspect had wanted to meet the child and the meeting place was somewhere near the NCPA office in Pitakotte this morning.

However, on his arrival the suspect was arrested by NCPA officials and produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court today.

Investigations are currently underway regarding the incident.
