It is reported that vehicles are still parked near the Sri Maha Bodhi Car Park disregarding Presidents order.

Following a Hiru News exposure last Thursday, The President had issued a directive to immediately stop an ongoing vehicle park construction project adjacent to the Sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi due to it posing a threat to the religious site.

Our news bulletin, quoting a research done by the National Botanical Garden Department, disclosed that the Sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura the only living symbol of Buddha could be affected due to toxic vehicle emissions.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa had immediately ordered the Anuradhapura Mayor to suspend all construction work that was carried out within a 500 meter radius of the Sacred Bo Tree.

Following the President’s orders, the Anuradhapura Mayor had informed the Highways Department in writing to suspend the construction with immediate effect.

However, Indrajith Senanayaka stated that vehicles are still parked in the 2 car in the vicinity of the Sri Maha Bodiya.

He further stated that when there is ample space allocated for an alternative car park, the relevant stakeholders are not taking any appropriate action.

Indrajith Senanayaka further stated that he will make a request from the Malwathu and Asgiriya chief prelates to protect the sacred Jaya Sri maha bodiya.
