The Colombo Municipal Council has decided to levy a toilet tax from the people for the Colombo city fecal system maintenance.

The CMC said that discussion was going on as to how this money would be charged.

The current Colombo City fecal system is more than 100 years old.

The CMC points out that constantly the system becomes subjected to breakdowns and instances are reported when the public are inconvenienced as a result of this.

As a remedy for this it has been decided to set up a new fecal system for the Colombo city under the Asian Development Bank financial aid.

CMC deputy mayor Titus Perera said that the tax concerned would be levied as maintenance fee for the newly set up fecal system.
