UPDATE: Teacher who ordered a female student to hang her slippers around her neck explain her intention
The disciplinarian of Kavantissa Vidyalaya in Seru Nuwara Kantale who allegedly ordered a year 5 female student to hang her slippers around her neck said that she punished the student to show her the correct path.
The Eastern Provincial Education Ministry has ordered an inquiry after several Medias reported the incident.
The mother of the victim who witnessed her daughter was humiliated in the school complained the incident to police later.

Eastern Provincial Education Minister has ordered the Provincial Education Secretary to submit an immediate report over a student harassment incident of the Kavantissa Vidyalaya in Seru Nuwara Kantale.
A female teacher of Kavantissa Vidyalaya has punished a year-5 girl student by ordering her to hang her slippers around her neck for not wearing shoes to school last Friday.
Having witnessed the incident, the mother of the girl has complained to police and told that the girl wore slippers to school as she could not afford for shoes.
Later police have summoned the teacher and warned her over the incident, and donated a pair of shoes to the girl.
Meanwhile Eastern Provincial Education Minister Wimalaweera Dissanayake has ordered his Educational Secretary to hold an inquiry and submit him a report over the incident without delay.
