A request to remove Fuel adjustment charge before May day.
The National Electricity Movement requests the government to remove the fuel adjustment charge from the electricity bill before May Day.
National Electricity Movement Consultant Bandula Harischandra said that the government promised the consumers to remove the fuel adjustment charge after the second phase of the Norochcholai Coal power plant is commissioned.
Our news team contacted Electricity Board Chairman W.B. Ganegala to comment on the matter.
He said 90% of total power requirement is generated by Thermal power as hydro power generation is reduced by 10% due to lack of rain in the catchments.
Consequent to this situation, he said that the Electricity Board has to incur heavy expenses to generate Thermal power.
He said therefore that the electricity Board is currently not in a position to remove the fuel adjustment charge.
