Terrifying hornets' nest with a nightmarish FACE found in abandoned shed
A huge hornets' nest which has fused with a creepy-looking wood carving to create a nightmare-inducing statue has been found in an abandoned shed.
The unsettling construction formed around a wood carving of a head - which looks pretty disturbing in its own right. But combined with the sprawling hive it becomes a terrifying, and potentially deadly structure.
It was found by a Reddit user who goes by the handle CountBubs, who said the nest appeared to be abandoned.
But other users warned him it could just be dormant, and a change in temperature could wake a swarm of giant wasps from their slumber.
One user, called TheCunning1 shared a cautionary anecdote.
"I knew someone that took a large hornet nest inside their house as decor," he said. "They found it in winter. A few days of being in the warm air they woke up. Needless to say what followed wasn't fun for anyone."
But CountBubs said he'd made absolutely sure any remaining hornets were good and dead before going near the hive.
"There's dead hornets all around it," he wrote. "We tried hitting the lower part underneath the support (you can see it in the lower left half of the picture) and there was no disturbance."
Hornets can grow up to two inches long, and their potent venom makes their sting much more painful than a regular wasp.
