Peradeniya University Mulls closing of Allied Science Faculty : Video
Vice Chancellor of Peradeniya University Professor Athula Senarathna says that he has to close the Faculty of Allied Health Science if students do not attend lectures.
He said students have not attended lecturers for more than four months and gave an ultimatum until May 5th.
He said that he will have to close the faculty if students do not return to lectures before this ultimatum.
Allied Health Science students started protests in Peradeniya, Galle Bus Stand, Colombo Fort and in front of the University Grants Commission against reducing the duration of the degree to three years.
The protest at Peradeniya completes 126 days while the protest at Galle Bus Stand completes 118 days to date.
The Colombo Fort protest has completed 34 days while protest at University Grants Commission has completed 24 days to date.
The Lanka Teachers Association has also showed solidarity towards the Allied Health Science students protest.
During a media briefing held at his office today, Peradeniya University Vice Chancellor Professor Athula Senarathna said that he has no other option but closing down the Faculty of Allied Health Science if students continue to boycott lectures.
