The Consumer Affairs Authority is considering taking legal action against fish mongers and butchers who wrap fish and meat in used newspapers.

Our news team recently disclosed the danger of wrapping fish and meat in used newspapers and other printed matters.

In our news exposure, Head of National Poisons Information Center Dr. Waruna Gunatilaka said that consumers could fall sick due to toxic components of printed material entering human body.

Consumer Affairs Authority Director General J.M.A. Douglas said that he came to know the information when it was aired on Gold FM news bulletin.

He said that he would obtain further information from the National Poisons Information center and look into the matter seriously.

Rapping meat and fish in news paper is dangerous

National Information Centre Divisional Head physiological disease specialist Dr. Varuna Gunatilleka said that there was a risk of various diseases and ailments being caused as a result of the ink in the newspapers sheets entering the body.

At many urban sales points newspaper sheets are used for wrapping meat and fish.

Dr. Varuna Gunatilleke told our news team that the ink in newspaper pages has metallic contents that are harmful to the body.
