Tense situation in Kurunegala due to Nurse - Midwives clash: Video
The nursing staff of the Kurunegala teaching hospital is currently engaging in a trade union action claiming that midwives had forcibly entered maternity wards.
Our regional reporters stated that all nurses except those who are serving in the emergency treatment unit are currently engaging in a strike in the hospital grounds.
Speaking to our news team the Kurunegala district secretary of the Public Services United Nurses Association Krishanthi Ganga Kumari stated that they will call off the strike if midwives return to their assigned jobs.
Our news team inquired from the Government Midwives Services Association Kurunegala District Executive Committee Member Inoka Ranaweera regarding this.
In response she stated that according to the trade union action undertaken midwives had reported to duty at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
She also rejected the allegations made by the nurses.
Although our news team attempted to contact the director of the hospital to inquire regarding the prevalent situation at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital due to these incidents it was to no avail.
