All Nurses organizations state that despite the strike that is being conducted in the North Western Province, due to the accident that took place in Pothuhera treatment of the injured is being carried out in the Kurunegala hospital.

The Nurses organizations initiated a strike at 7 this morning in hospitals in the North Western Province claiming that midwives and doctors are not allowing nurses to obtain midwifery training.

Nurses associations also decided to continue to strike that was initiated in the Maternity Hospital in Castle Street in Colombo.

However leaders of Nurses Trade Unions stated that a decision was taken to halt the strike in the Kurunegala Hospital and return to work in lieu of the train accident that took place in Pothuhera.

The Central Committee Member of the Government Medical Officers Association Dr. Nalinda Herath stated that due to the issue pertaining to midwifery training the doctors of both Ratnapura and Kalutara have refrained from their duties despite the trade union action in the Kurunegala Hospital being halted.
