Deyata Kirula intercity train left Colombo at 6.50am and it had picked passengers of the Yaldevi express train after Yaldevi broke down at Veyangoda.

Engines of both trains were damaged and several compartments of both trains were derailed after the accident.

Train services on the Northern line between Polgahawela and Kurunegala have been temporarily suspended after the accident.

The Railway Control stated that stranded passengers are transported by SLTB buses.

Meanwhile Transport Minister Kumara Welgama along with a railway team have reached the Pothuhera Railway Station a little while ago.
