The Government Nursing officers association stated that trade union action staged today in the North Western province and Colombo Maternity Hospital in Castle Street will be extended to Colombo National Hospital, Balapitiya, Hambantota and Diyatalawa hospitals as well.

The nurses trade unions commenced a protest yesterday regarding the issue of midwives and doctors hindering their training for midwifery.

Meanwhile, during a media briefing convened in Colombo today the Government Medical Officers Association expressed their views regarding the difficulties faced at Kalutara hospital due to the trade union action.

During another media briefing held in Colombo today regarding the issues cropped up due to midwifery training, the Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena stated that he intends to discuss with all relevant parties on the 2nd of May and resolve the matter.
