Gopi in an assassination conspiracy
An expert terrorism analyst Dr. Rohan Gunarathna has told foreign media that former LTTE suspect Ponniah Selvanayagam alias Gopi had hatched a plot to assassinate a top political leader of Sri Lanka.
Gopi along with two other notorious LTTE leaders Thevian and Appan were killed in a recent confrontation with the Security Forces in the jungles of Padaviya.
Dr. Gunarathne told foreign media that the destruction of the tripartite cell was a timely action.
He said that Thevian was sent to India on the instruction of former LTTE leader Prabhakaran to carry out operations with LTTE proxies in Tamil Nadu therefore India should have investigated over the links between this LTTE cell and its Indian LTTE proxies.
Meanwhile Sri Lankan government has already banned 16 international pro-LTTE entities including British Tamil Congress as they have been supporting a separate state in Sri Lanka.
At the same time, the government has informed the Interpol to enlist 430 suspects including a notorious Tiger activist Nediyawan as wanted criminal.
Accordingly, Interpol has issued ‘Red Notice’ on the listed LTTE group.
Meanwhile Northern Provincial Council passed a resolution on last Monday against the government decision to ban 16 international LTTE frontline organizations.
