Update : Five Railway workers interdicted in connection with the train accident - Pothuhera to be given one more track.

Five Railway workers have been interdicted in connection with the train accident that took place at Pothuhera yesterday.

Among the interdicted workers are the engine driver of Palai bound Deyata Kirula Intercity Express and the Station master of the Pothuhera Railway Station.

Speaking to our news team Railway Transport Superintendent L.A.R. Rathnayake further described the action leading to interdicting the five workers.

Railway transport on the Northern line has still been crippled due to yesterday’s accident.

The Train Control stated that the Vavuniya bound intercity train which should leave Colombo Fort at 3.55am was cancelled.

However Railway Transport Superintendent L.A.R. Rathnayake said that normal services will run as usual on the main line upto Polgahawela.

Meanwhile Deputy Transport Minister Rohana Dissanayake visited Pothuhera to inspect the reconstruction of damaged railway track today.

Speaking to our news team, the deputy minister said that construction of an additional railway track at the Pothuhera Railway Station has been started.

Five interdicted following the Pothuhera train collision

Sri Lanka Railways said Five including the train engine driver, assistant, guard, signal controller and the Potuhera station master have been interdicted following the train accident.

Railways Superintendent L.A.R. Ratnayake said every effort was being made to resume the train services by this afternoon.
