The Railway Engine Drivers Association objected the Railway General Manager’s decision to interdict five workers including the driver of the Palai bound Express train after the accident in Pothuhera yesterday morning.

Association President K.A.U. Konthasinghe said that his Association will meet tomorrow to take a decision with regard to interdicting of its members.

Apart from the engine driver of the Palai bound express train, its assistant driver was also interdicted.

Among the other interdicted workers are the Pothuhera Station master and its signalman.

However Konthasinghe said that his association is against the general manager’s decision to interdict railway workers while an investigation to the incident is on.

The engines of both the Palai bound Intercity Express and the Rajarata Rajina were damaged and several compartments were also derailed in the accident.

Soon after the incident the Transport Minister who visited the scene; appointed a four member committee, presided by Deputy Transport Superintendent Gamini Seneviratne to probe the accident.

The committee chairman Gamini Seneviratne who inspected the accident yesterday told our news that the ‘black box’ of the Deyata Kirula Intercity Express was taken into their custody.
