Due to heavy showers experienced in the Anuradhapura district yesterday 4 sluice gates of the Rajanganaya reservoir had to be suddenly opened 4 feet each.

Also 2 sluice gates of the Angamuwa Tank also had to be opened.

Meanwhile a group of local and foreign tourists who were trapped in the Minneriya reserve last evening were rescued with the assistance of the residents and the Disaster Management unit.

4 foreigners and 44 locals were among those trapped who had visited the park in 10 jeeps as the Kiri Oya overflowed.

Deputy Media Director of the Disaster Management Centre Sarath Lal Kumara stated that the public should also be cautious regarding the threat of landslides.

Meanwhile, Duty Meteorologist Jeewan Karunarathna stated that heavy showers can be expected in several parts of the island today.
