Trade unions say that the strike that was commenced by Nurses Trade Unions will be continued today as well as no solutions were received for the midwifery training issue.

Chairman of the Government Nursing Officers Association Saman Ratnapriya stated that around 28,000 nurses at 650 hospitals have gone on strike.

The State Services United Nurses Association and All Island Nurses Association also stated that they too would continue with this strike.

Several in-house patients were inconvenienced as a result of the strike at hospitals island-wide.

Although trade unions say that essential services were conducted some patients said that it was not so.

However, Secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr Nihal Jayathilaka stated that this strike should be brought to a halt by reaching a consensus.

Minister of Health Maithreepala Sirisena requested nursing staff to return to work.
