The committee headed by Finance Ministry Secretary P. B. Jayasundara the Government has appointed for resolving the midwifery problem meets for the first time this afternoon.

While the Finance Ministry Secretary is the chairman of the committee, representatives including the Health Ministry Secretary and Health Services Director General form part of the committee.

The Government Nursing Officers Association stated that it will call off the strike with effect from 7am today.

The strike was launched by three nursing trade unions three days ago, and Government Service United Nurses Association President Muruth-thettuwe Ananda Thera withdrew from the strike yesterday.
