Kurunegala Police officer who survived murder attempt gives statement to CID regarding incident : video
The CID has recorded a statement from the injured police officer regarding the case where two police officers were abducted in Kurunegala and one was shot dead.
The investigation of the case was handed over to the CID by the IGP.
The Director of CID and an investigation team inspected the alleged site in Kurunegala this evening and recorded a statement from the injured police officer at Kurunegala Hospital.
A group of persons abducted the two police officers on traffic duty at the Gattuwana junction in Kurunegala this morning and taken them to Ranawana area in Badagamuwa forest reserve.
One police officer was stripped and shot dead while the other escaped after brawling with his abductors.
A resident of the area recalled that he heard the sound of a gunshot and saw a van flee from the site speedily.
The deceased Police Constable is the 43 year old Chandana Sampath who is father of 2 children.
Meanwhile, Kurunegala Hospital Director Dr. Palitha D. Yapa stated that the injured Police Constable Ajith Weerasuriya is currently receiving treatment at Kurunegala Teaching hospital and his condition is not critical.
A media briefing was convened at the Police headquarters this morning regarding the case.
Police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana stated that nearly 140 incidents have been reported against the police since June.
