Did Hambantota PS Chairman brandish a pistol or a toy - Photographs and video footage sent to Ruhunu University
Police have obtained a statement from Hambantota Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Eraj Fernando in connection with the interruption of the UNP MPs inspection tour of the Magam-pura Port and the Mattala International Airport.
The special team led by Galle DIG who investigated the incident has gone to Hambantota to obtain the statement from Eraj Fernando.
The police team had questioned the Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman regarding the pistol that he had brandished at the time of the incident.
The Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman has told police that it was a toy he brought to the scene to safeguard the UNP MPs from the mayhem.
However photographs and video clips of the pistol that were collected from media organizations were sent to the computer unit of the Ruhunu University.
Police said that university experts will analyze the photographs and video clips for their authenticity, and check whether Hambantota Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Eraj Fernando brandished a live pistol or a toy.
Meanwhile, police have recorded statements from 60 persons in connection with the incident.
In addition, 4 suspects who were arrested recently have been released on bail after they were produced before the Hambantota Magistrate courts.
The UNP MPs were interrupted during their inspection tour in Mattala airport and Hambantota Magampura port on the 17th of April.
The group of MPs who joined the tour included Ajith P. Perera, Nalin Bandara, Eran Wickramaratne, Ajith Maanna-pperuma and R. Yogarajan.
